About Kindred Bookshop: Kindred Bookshop, a Black feminist-owned digital bookshop and marketplace, aims to inspire and empower our community of Black and Brown readers, authors, and entrepreneurs. Since our inception in 2023, we have been dedicated to celebrating diverse voices through curated book collections, engaging events, and a commitment to amplifying underrepresented narratives.

🎯 Goals

Our goals for you by the end of this internship:

  • Low level: To collaborate with Bookshop owner and other team members to create regular social media content for our social media platforms (Facebook, X/Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram).

  • Mid-level: To contribute to developing our online presence and voice in ways that reflect our 2024 strategic vision AND your skill sets and creativity. We want you to bring your genius to work and contribute in ways that are very meaningful to you.

  • High level: To develop your skillset as a social media professional or as a professional interested in gaining experience doing social media, so that you can apply those skillsets in another future role.

🗒️ Core Responsibilities

  1. Content Creation:

    • Develop engaging and visually appealing content for Kindred Bookshop's social media platforms, including Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.

    • Create graphics, posts, and other multimedia content to promote book releases, events, and the overall mission of the bookshop.

  2. Community Engagement:

    • Interact with the bookshop's community on social media by responding to comments, messages, and mentions.

    • Foster connections with followers, authors, and influencers to enhance Kindred Bookshop's online presence.

  3. Campaign Support:

    • Assist in the planning and execution of social media campaigns, giveaways, and promotions.

    • Collaborate with the marketing team to ensure social media efforts align with overall promotional strategies.

  4. Analytics and Reporting:

    • Monitor social media analytics to assess the performance of campaigns and content.

    • Provide regular reports with insights and recommendations for improving social media effectiveness.

  5. Stay Informed:

    • Stay up-to-date with social media trends, algorithms, and best practices to keep Kindred Bookshop at the forefront of digital engagement.

💪 Our Ideal Candidate

  • Currently enrolled in an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree program in Communications, Graphic Design, Marketing and/or other Humanities who are interested in developing their creative, digital storytelling, and content creation experience.

  • Passion for reading/literature, contributing to their local community, and social justice.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Familiarity with social media platforms, scheduling tools, and analytics.

  • Creative mindset with an eye for design and storytelling.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote setting.

⏱️ Workload

  • Time Commitment: This is a semester-long internship position (10-14 weeks), with a flexible schedule to accommodate coursework.

  • Work hours: Our ideal candidate will be able to dedicate at least 5, but no more than 10 hours to this role per week. We recognize that this is an unpaid opportunity and value work-life-school balance.

💰 Payment

  • Compensation: This is not a paid position.
